Modern Dining: Marco Polo Restobar

In the heart of Clarkson is where you’ll find one of our city’s hottest restaurants: Marco Polo Restobar. The team has created a trendy atmosphere that blends North American gastropub fare with a Mediterranean twist along with exciting entertainment to create a memorable experience. Known for their mouthwatering sharable plates, stellar service and creative drink menu, Marco Polo’s dedicated family offer unparalleled dining, whether it’s your first of fiftieth visit.

SIGNATURE FOOD ITEMS

While there’s an appetite for the entire menu, popular menu offerings include cooked-for-eight-hours short ribs, Tapas oriented chorizo corn dog, and their fried chicken sandwich, cutely named the “Mother Clucker.” Oh, and the “buck-a-shuck” oysters are a daily favourite.

SIGNATURE DRINKS

Dorian Paul, the bar chef, has come up with an homage to Drake’s Degrassi days via the “Wheelchair Jimmy.” All their eight tap beers are import craft beers and they even have their own craft brew out of Stouffville. They even grow their own bitters in-house!

Great food, vibes, and entertainment. (Fine, we gave them five words)

SEATING CAPACITY

96 inside, 65 on the patio.

TYPE OF FOOD

North American gastropub food with a Mediterranean twist and a worldly flavour.

CHEF’S BIO

Simon Rae, a young and ambitious chef, had worked with owner Kyle Olivera previously at Piazza Bistro in Oakville as the head Sous Chef for over two years, and when the opportunity arose to reunite, it was a perfect fit for them. Learning his craft at George Brown College, Rae’s been cooking for the past 12 years and has a Scottish and Italian culinary background. He’s got plenty of freedom in the kitchen, so much so that he’s encouraged to create nearly any type of dish at least once. Their constantly filled dining room is a testament to just how talented Chef Simon is.

WHAT CAN CUSTOMERS EXPECT?

Delicious food that’s created carefully and creatively, top notch customer service (even Kyle’s parents help out because they want to, not because they have to), and a welcoming atmosphere. Their entertainment side is quickly gaining popularity, primarily due to the musicians’ positive interactions with the audience.

TAKEOUT/CATERING

Absolutely.

PRICE RANGE

Mid-range price for high quality food.

SPECIALS & EVENTS

With such an exciting menu, every meal is a “special.” The team will try anything new menu-wise at least once to give it a chance. Owner Kyle Olivera supports his kitchen team and gives them freedom to be creative. The live music aspect is definitely an on-going event, made popular by the entertainers interacting with the patrons.

NAME ORIGIN

Marco Polo, the Venetian merchant traveler, was the inspiration for naming the restaurant. Kyle didn’t want to pigeon-hole his restaurant with a single type of food, so he wanted to create something that captured a wide array of food offerings, similar to Marco Polo’s vast travels. Seeing as food brings everyone together, the Marco Polo name fit perfectly and is especially illustrated in their “shareable” plates, along with their other menu items.

TYPE OF CLIENTELE

If you’re hungry, Marco Polo has a seat for you. Yes, there are a healthy number of young professionals coming through the doors, but the restaurant is welcoming towards any and every one who wants delicious food and an inviting, entertaining atmosphere.
