Learn about the 29th annual The People in Motion Show

The People in Motion Show returns for its 29th year at a new home, Variety Village, located in Scarborough, Ontario, on new dates of June 15-16, 2018. This is the must-attend show for anyone with a disability who wants to get out for a day of fun and gain valuable information aimed at improving their lives and partake in all that Variety Village has to offer.  The show is open to all and offers free admission and free parking.

The People in Motion Show is a one-stop shop for anyone with a disability, and their families and caregivers, to come and get information about services they need for easier mobility, accessing government services, finding gainful employment, sports opportunities, and accessible exercise and fitness programs.

The opening ceremony takes place June 15th at 10am. In attendance will be many well-known Canadians including David Onley (former Ontario Lieutenant Governor), Toronto City Councillor Kristen Wong-Tam (Chair of the Toronto Accessibility Advisory Committee), Toronto City Councillor Gary Crawford (Ward 36, Scarborough Southwest), Karen Stintz (President & CEO of Variety Village), Maureen Haan (President & CEO of the Canadian Council for Rehabilitation & Work (CCRW), our spokesperson Anthony Lue, and many others. Anthony is a local inspiration who was headed for a professional sporting career when an accident at a scrap metal yard left him paralyzed from the waist down.  He is currently training to represent Canada at the Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.

Once again, the People in Motion Show will host our very popular Career Fair, organized by CCRW on Friday, June 15th only, where top employers such as the City of Toronto, Accenture, Ontario Power Generation, Brookfield GIS, the Canadian National Exhibition, HSBC Canada, The Nielsen Company and others will be in attendance providing corporate information, hosting interviews, and showcasing the various roles and careers they have within their companies for persons with disabilities. A trip to the show can be the start to a promising career!

As well, Variety Village is opening their doors to the whole community on both days with an Open House, allowing all attendees and the neighbourhood the opportunity to use their facilities to lift weights, swim, do laps on their track, and more with a one-day pass. This is the perfect opportunity to explore their building and see how they support those with disabilities, those in rehabilitation, and the local community. Come feel the difference a warm, inclusive environment makes for everyone.

Come to the show, try para-archery, get a wheelchair tune-up, learn about accessible voting, try bocce ball and disc golf, and so much more - all geared to those with disabilities.
