Today’s topic is the history of Mississauga's Peer House / Chelsea Restaurant.
This building was originally a private family home built by the Peer family in 1867, the year of Canada’s Confederation. Several families of Peers lived in the Port Credit and Clarkson area and they were quite active in the commercial sailing and stone-hooker trades during the latter part of the 19th century.
This clapboard house features a central gable and decorative vergeboard, and originally faced onto Lakeshore Road. The house has not been relocated; rather a newer development was built in front of the house, on its former front lawn.
The house is now home to a charming restaurant, Chelsea House.
