The Clarkson Society of Artists annual showcase

On April 7, 8 and 9, 2017, the Clarkson Society of Artists will hold their annual showcase at
Visual Arts Mississauga, located at 1470 Riverwood Park Lane, Mississauga

Approximately 35 members of this innovative group of artists will have their latest creations of original painting on display and for sale.

Since 1963 members have met in Clarkson every Wednesday from September to April to paint on their own or participate in workshops given by professional artists. This has resulted in a wide knowledge base of styles and techniques. Because of limited meeting space, this popular group is kept to approximately 35 members with an ever-growing wait list.

The April show will include approximately 100 pieces in styles ranging from realism to non-objective art. With paintings in oil, watercolour, acrylic, inks, mixed media and collage in a wide assortment of colours and tones, there will surely be something to please everyone's taste. There will also be a free draw for an original painting.

This year's featured artist is Barbara Clarke. Barbara began painting in watercolour, pursuing the challenge of that medium for many years. Five years ago, she started using acrylics, and now works in both mediums. Her style is realism. Barbara likes the magic flow of water and paint pigment on paper that give a luminous transparency to a watercolour painting.

Recently, Barbara had a successful solo show, called “On the Limb,” that highlighted a theme about trees in the landscape, their shapes and life cycle. Some of these paintings will be on display.  Also included in the show are several paintings from the latest series that explore the theme of water.

Come meet Barbara and the other artists at the opening reception on Friday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm. Light refreshments will be available. The show continues Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.  Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
