Firefighters Without Borders receives huge donation

The Township of Asphodel Norwood Fire Service is donating bunker gear, helmets, a hose reel and hose, halogen lights, attic ladders and reflective vests to Firefighters Without Borders to continue their efforts to equip fire services with much needed equipment and training.

“The paramount concern as a firefighter is safety for all firefighters,” said Darryl Payne, Fire Chief, Township of Asphodel Norwood, “The brave individuals Firefighters Without Borders is supporting are performing their duty sometimes without the bare essentials. We were in the process of replacing some of our equipment and council at the time generously agreed to donate the surplus to Firefighters Without Borders to give these men equipment to perform their job” continued Payne.

“We continue to receive requests from Fire Services around the world in desperate need of equipment and education. It’s only with the help of people like those in the Township of Asphodel-Norwood that we are able to equip these heroes with the tools they need.” said Russell Chalmers, Firefighters Without Borders President. “ Our  volunteer  team  of  trainers  provides  the training  without  remuneration  and  on  their  own  time  off  from  their  Fire  & Emergency  Service  jobs  at  home.” he added.

Firefighters Without Borders offers fire service organizations around the globe training in First Aid and CPR, Hazardous Materials Response, Vehicle Extrication, Incident Management, Fire Suppression and Vehicle and Small Engine Maintenance. The volunteer team also conducts public education seminars in fire prevention for both children and adults believing that prevention is the key to saving more lives. Some of the projects Firefighters Without Borders is working on for 2017/2018 include deployments to Peru, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Nicaragua, St. Lucia and Honduras.
