We chat with Felicia Somerton of Somerton Creative and learn more about this small business.

1. What does Somerton Creative do?
It’s a whole new era of marketing out there and it’s important to have a team that’s setting the trend, not following it. Our marketing team develops new, exciting, and engaging marketing campaigns for your brand, online or offline specifically targeting shopping malls and restaurants. Some services we offer include but are not limited to social marketing, email marketing, brand management, advertising campaigns, online reputation management, food photography, videography, environmental graphic design, event planning and more.

2. How long have you been in business?
Over a year.

3. What's the most rewarding part of your business?
Being in control of our own day-to-day business as well as the flexibility we have with our creative planning.
 
4. How do you handle stress?
Panning and scheduling out my weeks, keep me focused and stress free. 

5. Where did the name originate from?
Somerton is our family surname.

6. Would you change anything between day one and today for your business?
After learning more about our market and the demands, we realized our strengths are within restaurant and shopping mall industry. At the beginning we accepted work from a variety of business’. Now we keep our focus to these two main areas so we can continue to develop the skills we feel confident in.

7. What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Set your goals high and understand your competitors. Be aware of what other similar business are doing, and make sure to stay creative to your brand. 

8. What inspired you to start Somerton Creative?
We had an opportunity to acquire an existing business although there were a few obstacles that prevented that from happening. We were also keen on the idea of starting a family operated business from scratch. 

9.  What's been the largest obstacle to overcome so far in business?
Balancing the different hats we wear daily including accounting/finances, marketing/sales, research and development on top of the business we deal with regularly. 

10. What's on tap for 2018?
We have several companies we have showed interest in within the GTA including other agencies similar to ours to partner with. We’re also looking to enroll into a few media studies classes at OCAD University. 

11. What does a typical day look like for you?
Planning and scheduling my weekly work load. 

12. What's your favourite social media platform and why?
For personal I enjoy using Facebook because I enjoy watching videos. For business, I prefer Instagram. Both make it easy to track data, although engagement with Instagram is significantly higher overall. 

13. What trends do you predict for 2018 in your industry?
Virtual reality marketing will become more popular and more businesses will be using it. I also think that influence marketing will become a trend as people rely on other opinions about a product or service.
