Modern Mississauga presents Way Back Wednesdays - The history of Truscott Drive

Modern Mississauga and Heritage Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Way Back Wednesdays."
We’ll share information about the history of Mississauga here and answer your questions.
Today’s topic is the history of Truscott Drive.

Sometimes road names come from strange places. Truscott Drive is one such story. What is the source of its name? Was it named for a very early farmer, who lived in the area in 1830s, George Truscott? Possible, but his was a short-lived association with the area, as he sold his property in 1836 – some 120 years before the modern road was established and named.

A much more likely name origin is Dennis Truscott – as in Lord Mayor of London, England Sir Denis Truscott. Truscott was only in the area for a few hours in the afternoon of August 9, 1958. So how did he get a road named after him, you might ask? Lord Mayor Truscott, who was in Toronto on a trade meeting, along with his wife, were invited by the United Lands Corporation to officially open their unfinished suburban development known as Park Royal. Truscott Drive marks the central route through the Park Royal subdivision.
