Fashion Friday - What type of tie pairs well with a patterned shirt?

Knowing how to coordinate your tie to your striped or checked shirt can be daunting.  Some guys skip it all together.  Hold on!  This could be just the wardrobe reboot you need this autumn.
Check out these tie options:

The Basic:  A solid color tie which matches one of the colors in your patterned shirt.

Classic with a Twist:  A tone on tone colored tie – think jacquard or a textured knit.

Subtle Design:  Choose a patterned tie that contrasts the motif in your shirt.

BoldGraphic or retro design tie teamed with a quirky, yet low key pattern shirt.

Edgy:  Go for a skinny tie (solid tone, maybe leather) on a dot or gingham shirt.

Three style rules to remember when working with patterns:

·         Let one pattern be the dominant in scale and size.

·         Keep it simple and limit to two or three patterns max, (that includes your blazer).

·         Avoid using the same pattern elements in your mix – don’t do stripe on stripe.

*Bonus tip:  Use color to unify pattern mixing
