The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026/27 Season With Beethoven, Bartók, and Brilliance

Beethoven, Bartók and internationally acclaimed pianist Roman Rabinovich take centre stage as the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026/27 main concert series with The Art of the Concerto. Join Maestro Denis Mastromonaco and the MSO on Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 PM in the Main Auditorium at the Living Arts Centre for Beethoven’s fourth Piano Concerto and Bartók’s spectacular Concerto for Orchestra. Sponsored by Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, the evening marks the third in a series of special Mayor’s Concerts.

Winner of the 2008 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, Roman Rabinovich brings exceptional imagination, sensitivity and technical command to the concert stage. His international career includes appearances at Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Kennedy Center, as well as collaborations with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, and other leading ensembles. Also a composer and visual artist, Rabinovich brings a distinctive creative perspective to his performances.

Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra turns the spotlight on the musicians of the MSO. Across five movements, individual instruments and entire sections take on solo roles, showcasing the orchestra’s versatility through rhythmic drive, playful exchanges, and a thrilling finale. The result is a compelling showcase of both individual artistry and the power of the full orchestra.

“Together, these works explore two very different approaches to the concerto,” says Maestro Denis Mastromonaco, Artistic Director of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. “Beethoven creates an extraordinary dialogue between the piano and orchestra, and Roman Rabinovich brings the imagination and depth this music deserves. Bartók then gives our musicians their own moments in the spotlight, revealing the character and brilliance of the entire orchestra.”

“We are delighted to begin our main series with such an exceptional artist and a program that showcases the talents of our musicians,” said Claudine LaRochelle, Executive Director of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. “We are grateful to Mayor Carolyn Parrish for her generous sponsorship and continued support of the MSO. That support helps us bring outstanding live music to Mississauga and connect our community through shared concert experiences.”
