Ontario will loosen COVID-19 restrictions as of January 31st, 2022

The nearly month-long restrictions placed by the Ontario government on January 5th, 2022 will be loosened on January 31st, 2022.

Indoor dining, gyms, movie theatres and others will be able to operate at 50% capacity, proof of full vaccination and adhering to masking protocols.

Initially, January 26th was to be the the initial date of “re-opening” and moving away from the modified Step 2, which saw the closures of the aforementioned and capacity limits on retail settings, malls and personal care businesses.

Part of the progress announced is that on February 21st, there will be no capacity limits where proof of vaccination are required.
On March 14th, all capacity limits for all indoor public settings will be lifted while a vaccination passport is still mandatory.
There are 21 days between easing of restrictions.
The above two dates are conditional upon case counts, of course.
However, there is a chance that there will be a pause between these steps based on infection/hospitalization rates.

The Omicron variant has swept through communities and is showing signs of slightly letting up, enough so that the PC’s have decided to ease restrictions.
It hasn’t plateaued by any means and there continues to be numerous new cases daily.

The Region of Peel has an interactive map that’s updated weekly with case counts that can be found here.

With schools being re-opened as of January 17th, it’s a slow, cautious step towards a full re-opening, whenever that may be.

Third doses of the vaccine (booster shots) are becoming increasingly available in Mississauga to those who want them.
