With a paltry voter turnout of 25.71 per cent in the 2024 Mississauga election, it’s crucial to vote later this year as your vote shapes our city.

Voting is how you help choose the people who make decisions about the services you use every day. This includes roads, transit, parks, libraries, recreation programs, housing and how tax dollars are spent.

Mississauga is one of Canada’s most diverse cities. To help more residents feel ready to vote, the City is sharing clear and accessible election information in languages often spoken in Mississauga. These include Arabic, French, Polish, Punjabi, Traditional Chinese and Urdu.

The City wants to make voting possible for everyone. Accessible voting locations, voting technology, assistive devices and support from trained election staff are available. If you are voting for the first time, there are three simple steps to help you with the process. Follow these, and you will know what to bring and feel ready to vote.

Can you vote in the 2026 Municipal Election?

Before Election Day, make sure you can vote. Check that your information is on the voters’ list. If your name is on the voters’ list, your voter notification card will be mailed in September 2026. The voter notification card shows when and where you can vote. Having the card with you will help make voting faster. Planning ahead
You can help make voting easier by getting ready before you leave home. Bring your voter notification card, if you get one in the mail, and plan ahead for your trip. Check where you can vote before you go. Give yourself extra time. Depending on lineups, you may need to pack your patience. When you get to the voting place, look for voting signs and wayfinding signs to help you find the voting area.
What to bring to vote
When you go to a voting place, bring one piece of acceptable identification (ID), listed by the Ontario government, that shows your name and address. During advance voting—dates set up to vote before October 26—you can vote at any voting place in Mississauga. On Election Day, you must vote in the ward where you live or own property.

Examples of ID that are good to use are:

Ontario driver’s licence
Ontario photo card
a cheque or bank document
an insurance statement
another document included on the voter identification list

Voting by proxy

If you can’t vote in person, you can ask someone to vote for you. This is called voting by proxy. First, complete an Appointment for Voting Proxy form. Then, have the form certified by the City of Mississauga before 5 p.m. on Election Day.

Here’s what you need to vote by proxy:

You and the person voting for you will complete the Appointment for Voting Proxy Form.
The person voting for you must be someone who can vote in Mississauga.
You will need to bring the completed proxy form to the City to have it certified before the deadline.
