2026 Mississauga Election Candidate Profile: Ward 2 - Ananya Majumder
/With the upcoming 2026 Municipal elections happening on Monday, October 26th, Modern Mississauga Media has reached out to all candidates inviting them to answer the same questions so voters can familiarize themselves with them.
With the 2022 Mississauga election having a paltry 21.84% voter turnout, this series is to educate the community and hopefully increase voter turnout for 2026.
Low voter turnout means that the voices of a few make decisions for all.
Candidate’s were also asked to provide at least four images and their answers are unedited.

1. Why are you running for Ward 2 Councillor?
I am running because I believe Ward 2 deserves a strong advocate who will listen to residents, understand the issues and do the work to get results.
Ward 2 is changing, and we need a councillor who will stand up for our neighbourhoods, protect what makes them special, support local businesses and make sure growth is managed responsibly.
My commitment is simple: Listen to you. Work for you. Put Ward 2 first.
2. What makes you stand out over other candidates?
I bring a combination of 20+ years of political and community experience, legal advocacy experience and small-business ownership.
My background has taught me how government works, how to navigate regulations and how to advocate effectively when residents need someone to stand up for them.
I also understand the challenges facing Ward 2 — from development and infrastructure to environmental concerns, neighbourhood safety and the health of our local economy.
As a small-business owner, I understand firsthand that when local businesses succeed, our entire community benefits.
Most importantly, I am prepared to take responsibility, work collaboratively and be accountable to Ward 2 residents. I am not running simply to have a seat at Council. I am running to do the work.
3. What are your key campaign priorities?
My priorities can be summed up simply:
Balanced Budgets. Safe Neighbourhoods. Smart Growth.
Fiscal responsibility — responsible spending and no unnecessary property tax increases.
Safer streets and neighbourhoods — making safety a priority for residents and families.
Smart growth — development that respects existing neighbourhoods, infrastructure and the environment.
Protecting our environment and waterfront — standing up for Ward 2's natural spaces and expecting responsible environmental practices.
Supporting local businesses — helping create a strong local economy where small businesses can grow and succeed.
Better city services — roads, parks, infrastructure and services that residents can rely on.
4. What budget item is the most important for Mississauga?
The most important principle is fiscal responsibility.
Mississauga needs a balanced and sustainable budget that protects essential services while respecting taxpayers.
Residents should expect their tax dollars to be spent wisely on priorities such as infrastructure, roads, public safety, parks and essential city services.
I will support responsible spending, accountability and value for taxpayers, while ensuring that important services are not compromised.
5. What are your three favourite aspects of Mississauga?
Our waterfront and green spaces — places like Rattray Marsh and our parks are an important part of what makes Mississauga special.
Our people and diverse communities — Mississauga is strengthened by residents from many backgrounds who call this city home.
Our local businesses and entrepreneurs — they create jobs, contribute to our economy and give our neighbourhoods their character.
6. How will you be actively supporting our locally owned businesses if elected?
I believe a strong local economy starts with successful local businesses.
As a small-business owner myself, I understand the challenges entrepreneurs face. I will advocate for a business-friendly environment, encourage residents to shop locally and support initiatives that help local businesses connect with the community and grow.
I also want to make sure the City listens to small-business owners when developing policies that affect their ability to operate and succeed.
7. What does Mississauga currently excel at?
Mississauga excels at building strong communities, providing quality municipal services and attracting businesses and investment.
We have excellent parks, recreational facilities, a strong economic base and a diverse population that is one of our City's greatest strengths.
Our opportunity now is to manage growth responsibly while protecting the qualities that residents value — safe neighbourhoods, a strong economy, beautiful natural spaces and a high quality of life.
8. How would you communicate with residents and what communication standards will you be setting and following?
My approach will be accessible, responsive and accountable.
Residents should be able to reach their councillor and know that their concerns are being heard. 24/7 Digital Hub.
I would also communicate through community meetings, email, social media, newsletters and direct engagement with residents and local organizations.
My standard is simple: Listen. Respond. Follow through.
If there is a problem, residents deserve to know that their councillor is working on it. And if something cannot be done, they deserve an honest explanation.
9. How do you plan to actively involve and include residents in decisions?
I believe residents should have a voice before decisions are made, not after.
I will encourage regular community engagement and listen to residents, businesses, community organizations and neighbourhood groups on issues affecting Ward 2.
I also want to hear from residents who may not normally attend community meetings or participate in municipal politics.
My approach will be to listen first, understand the facts, hear from the community and then advocate for Ward 2.
