Mississauga Ward 6 Councillor Ron Starr allegedly vandalizes former Mississauga Ward 2 Councillor Karen Ras' vehicle

As per a Toronto Star article published on February 2nd, 2022, Mississauga Ward 6 Councillor Ron Starr allegedly vandalized former Mississauga Ward 2 Councillor Karen Ras' vehicle in a parking garage.

Ras recently resigned, citing workplace issues as part of her decision to accept a new position outside of the City of Mississauga.

According to Ras’, her vehicle had been keyed seven times in an underground parking lot and unfortunately, there were no security cameras present at the time to document the events.
In the spring of 2021, cameras were installed, which captured a man keying Ras’ SUV on the morning of April 13th, causing damage that cost approximately $1,250 to repair.

Ras had informed integrity commissioner Robert Swayze of the incidents, which yielded no action.

While there were other factors leading to her decision to resign, this was one of the strong ones.

Ras said “What kind of message does that send to my daughters, that you just sit back and take it and there’s no recourse and anybody can do this? That’s not a good sign, so I took matters into my own hands, and thankfully this opportunity came up and it was worth pursuing to a get better workplace.”

The aforementioned Star article indicates that Ron Starr declined to comment on the issue.

Yes, all workplaces and colleagues have disagreements, conflicts and sometimes strongly-worded conversations, but if this is the retaliation that occurs, there’s a larger conversation to be had much sooner than later.
