2026 Mississauga Election Candidate Profile: Ward 11 - Dev Vashi

With the upcoming 2026 Municipal elections happening on Monday, October 26th, Modern Mississauga Media has reached out to all candidates inviting them to answer the same questions so voters can familiarize themselves with them.

With the 2022 Mississauga election having a paltry 21.84% voter turnout, this series is to educate the community and hopefully increase voter turnout for 2026.
Low voter turnout means that the voices of a few make decisions for all.

1. Why are you running for Ward 11 councillor?
I grew up in Ward 11, and this community is family to me. I’m running because our streets, parks, and infrastructure are being neglected while City Hall plays budget tricks. Ward 11 needs a councillor who actually listens, shows up at your door, and ensures our neighbourhoods get their fair share of city funding and attention.

2. What makes you stand out over other candidates?
I bring real grassroots energy and honest math. My team and I have knocked on over 10,000 doors to listen directly to residents. Unlike others, I won't hide the $259M repair bill or promise fake tax cuts. I have a background in public policy and a clear cost plan to fix our roads, parks, and youth jobs without tax spikes.

3. What are your key campaign priorities?
My priorities are: 

1) Honest budgeting that fixes our $259M repair backlog while limiting property tax spikes. 

2) Safer streets through speed humps and intersection cameras for car theft. 

3) Fair funding for parks and roads in every Ward 11 neighbourhood. 

4) Creating local student co-ops. 

5) Expanding youth and senior community programs at zero extra tax cost.

4. What budget item is the most important for Mississauga?
Restoring our capital infrastructure reserve fund is most critical. City Hall paused repair savings to make taxes look lower in an election year, pushing $259M in fixes to the future. We must fund our roads, pipes, and facilities properly today. This must be cushioned by savings from regional service transfers so taxpayers aren't hit with massive repair bills later.

5. What are your three favourite aspects of Mississauga?
Our incredible parks and trails, like Lake Aquitaine and the Credit River. 

2) The unique character of our neighbourhoods, from historic Streetsville to vibrant Meadowvale. 

3) Our diverse and welcoming residents who constantly step up to help their neighbours and make our city feel like a close family.

6. How will you be actively supporting our locally owned businesses if elected?
I will create "Small Business Navigators" at City Hall to help owners cut through red tape and get commercial permits faster. I’ll also protect commercial plazas, improve street lighting to keep shopping areas safe, and use municipal contracts to boost our local economy while connecting local businesses with bright student talent.

7. What does Mississauga currently excel at?
Mississauga excels at building vibrant, diverse communities with great public parks and recreational spaces. Our city has fantastic local trails, strong neighborhood spirit, and high-quality frontline emergency services. We just need better financial management at City Hall to protect and maintain these core assets for the long run.

8. How would you communicate with residents and what communication standards will you be setting and following?
I will set a standard of total openness and quick response times. I’ll host annual fall budget forums where residents speak before decisions are made. I’ll also publish plain-English quarterly updates, an annual "Where Your Dollar Went" report for Ward 11, and stay active directly on the doorstep and across local social channels.

9. How do you plan to actively involve and include residents in decisions?
I will host yearly community budget forums so you share priorities before the city budget is drafted. I'll publish clear rankings of park and road repairs so you can see where tax dollars go. My office will also work directly with neighbours to file traffic-calming requests and keep an open-door policy through regular town halls.
