2026 Mississauga Election Candidate Profile: Ward 7 - Joel Binda

With the upcoming 2026 Municipal elections happening on Monday, October 26th, Modern Mississauga Media has reached out to all candidates inviting them to answer the same questions so voters can familiarize themselves with them.

With the 2022 Mississauga election having a paltry 21.84% voter turnout, this series is to educate the community and hopefully increase voter turnout for 2026.
Low voter turnout means that the voices of a few make decisions for all.

1. Why are you running for Ward 7 councillor?
City Hall is moving in the wrong direction, wasting resources and becoming ideologically corrupt with Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). The City is constantly raising taxes and using Reserve funds to plug the Operating deficit. 

2. What makes you stand out over other candidates?
I'm the only candidate who worked in City Hall's Finance department and knows how City Hall operates internally. Other candidates have political buzz words, I have experience in City Hall. 

3. What are your key campaign priorities?
Stop EDI ideology, stop financial waste on 'cultural' grants. Start a Ward 7 job board and food bank. Police foot patrols on main streets. The City also needs an Independent Auditor General. 

4. What budget item is the most important for Mississauga?
Staff cost is by the biggest item in the operating budget. I'm the only candidate who knows the efficiency problems inside City Hall, which employs 4,000 staff. No other candidate is willing to control costs beyond buzzwords like 'accountability' and 'efficiency'.

5. What are your three favourite aspects of Mississauga?
Mississauga has significant economic potential. The City can reflect true diversity (not government sponsored 'equity'). It also has a beautiful mix of nature and urban land use.    

6. How will you be actively supporting our locally owned businesses if elected?
I'll create a job board for Ward 7 businesses and workers. I'll add Police foot patrols on main streets. Security is a necessary foundation for business in the city. 

7. What does Mississauga currently excel at?
A great small business environment. For a long time, the city exemplified true diversity, with different peoples succeeding together. Unfortunately, this may be changing.  

8. How would you communicate with residents and what communication standards will you be setting and following?
I'll have regular emails and newsletters to communicate with residents. I speak with plain and honest information, not the always-positive-feel-good niceties politicians normally put out.

9. How do you plan to actively involve and include residents in decisions?
I'll champion free speech and even politically incorrect speech. This way all residents feel listened to. Current ideology discriminates against conservative views.
