TALA Night at Benares Historic House, August 19th

An exciting array of sounds and moods from South Asia come to Benares Historic House at the Museums of Mississauga on August 19th, 7:30 pm.
 
Imagine, your friends and family at this annual outdoor concert series on a warm summer evening – bring a lawn chair, a picnic dinner and enjoy the atmosphere of Mississauga at its finest!

SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations is a Mississauga-based professional dance company specializing in the creation and production of classical and contemporary dance works rooted in bharatanatyam, a dance form originating from India. Founded in 1990 by Lata Pada, an accomplished dancer and choreographer, the company continues to inspire audiences with annual productions produced locally and internationally while nurturing the talents of emerging young dancers. The company celebrated their 25th anniversary in May 2015.

Wali ‘Flo’ Shah – Spoken Word - Selected by Plan Canada as one of Canada's Top 20 Under 20 in 2014, Wali Shah is a South Asian musician and poet, currently studying at the University of Toronto.
Shah is a Mississauga resident and 2013 honours graduate from Cawthra Park Secondary School in Peel. You might have seen Wali on MTV, or read about him in the Toronto Star. He has volunteered hundreds of hours, and helped raise over 1 million dollars for The United Way, to support his community. He's even freestyled with hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar.

8:30 – 9:00

Praveen Sawh is a musician working in both Indian Classical and Western forms of music.
Sawh plays tabla (North Indian Classical percussion) and fingerstyle guitar. He is determined to build greater awareness and appreciation for Indian Classical music. He aims to do this by injecting elements of Indian Classical melody and rhythm into popular music and composing works that are accessible but also rooted in traditional concepts.

Funds raised through a voluntary “pass the hat” donation go towards The Friends of the Museums, for Mississauga Youth Bus Transit, so that youth can attend Peel Board education programs at the Museums. The Friends of the Museums are a Volunteer organization dedicated to the vision of the Museums of Mississauga.
