Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - Does the City clean up dandelions in my neighboring park?

Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.”
We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about dandelions in parks.

Does the City clean up dandelions in my neighboring park?

To control the growth of dandelions, the City has a turf maintenance program in place to control weeds such as dandelions on parkland, which includes fertilizing, aerating and appropriate grass cutting.

The City hasn’t applied general pesticides to parkland in over 15 years, and as of April 22, 2009 the Ontario Pesticides Ban Act banned the use of pesticides province-wide.

The City’s grass cutting schedule is as follows:

·         Once every ten business days for open space and parkland, May through October

·         Once per five business days for facilities such as community centres, arenas and libraries, May through October
