Today’s question comes from a resident who is curious about MiWay discounts.

I’m starting high school in the fall. Does MiWay offer student discounts?

MiWay offers reduced fares for youth ages 13 to 19. The easiest way to pay your fare is with a PRESTO card and a single fare is only $2.25.

It’s easy to load, tap and ride with PRESTO. To get started, simply follow these three steps:

1. Set your PRESTO card to the Youth fare type at a service location. For a list of locations, visit miway.ca/presto.

2. Load your card online (www.prestocard.ca), by phone (1-877-378-6123) or in person at a service location.

3. Tap on when you board the bus.

Please be prepared to show proof of age when boarding (a student card or any identification (ID) showing age is accepted).

Students can also take part in MiWay’s Student Ambassador Program.

The MiWay Student Ambassador Program is an educational program that provides Mississauga high school students the opportunity to earn community hours and educate their peers about public transit.

To qualify for the program, students must attend a Peel District School Board or Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board high school in Mississauga.

Once selected by MiWay staff (with input from school administration), ambassadors will receive a toolkit of information, along with assistance and training from MiWay staff to help them complete the program.
