Finding your ideal autumn outfit at Mississauga's lifestyle destination, Square One

Let's start this fall fashion piece off with a bit of history between Square One and myself.

My first job was at Square One's New York Fries and my start date was August 3rd, 1997, the first day their food court went smoke-free. That job paid for my post-secondary education, my first car and my first apartment.

I wrapped up my time there on December 31st, 2005 and in those nearly 10 years, Square One had gone through several changes. Being the observant fellow that I am, I noticed that slowly but surely, there was a transformation into becoming a premium destination one store at a time, one restaurant at a time.

Fast forward to 2019 and they've achieved that as evidenced by the new additions, including Simons, Holt Renfrew, The Food District and many others. The appearance inside and out have been lifted to match their premium positioning as well.

Ok, now that the history is out of the way, let's get to why you're reading this.

As the owner of Mississauga's magazine and media company, I attend several local events and as such, I've gotta ensure my wardrobe is versatile and modern...pardon the pun but not really!

I was due for a new autumn outfit and Square One, to me, was the best option as they offer a variety of premium retailers for my autumn (and year round) shopping needs.
There's the most amount of selection beneath one roof, instead of navigating a labyrinth of stores and parking lots in a sprawled outlet landscape.

Below, you'll find where in Square One I went, why I picked what I did and corresponding images.

Item: Slim fit chino pant
Store: RW & Co.

First up on the autumn outfit task are pants. I figure I’d start at the bottom and build my way up.

RW & Co. had a strong selection and I quickly decided on what you see here; slim fit chino pants coloured in light caramel

These slim fit pants are made extra comfortable via their “FusionFlex” fabric, it allows you to move more freely. Versatility lets you wear them dressed up or down not only in autumn, but year round.

Item: Tailored fit dress shirt
Store: RW & Co.

Next up was finding a sweet shirt that compliments the pants, and as much as I leaned towards black, I found something that worked better for me. The darker, denim color on this dress shirt is accentuated by the minimalistic floral pattern and an ideal choice for a modern, autumn look. Pair this with the aforementioned pants and you’re aptly dressed for the office, date night or shopping at Square One for your ideal autumn outfit.

Item: Monochrome engineered jersey jacket, semi-slim fit
Store: Simons

Ah, the jacket…the item that adds an exclamation point to any outfit. After searching a few of the premium shops at Square One, this gem from Simons jumped out at me.

What I really like about this is the semi-slim fit as there’s room to move without that bulky feeling of an oversized jacket. The soft polyester-viscose weave with satiny lining is comfortable and allows you to dress this down with a short-sleeved shirt without any pesky itches.

Item: Micro-pattern automatic belt
Store: Simons

Well I’ve locked up my shirt, pants and jacket – now it’s time for a belt, one of the most underrated pieces of a stylish outfit. This very fashion-forward and functional automatic belt came in black and the colour here, fawn. While black is tried and true, adding colour to an autumn outfit, even with a belt, brings out an outfit beautifully.

Item: Herringbone block stripe scarf
Store: Simons

What better way to complete a modern outfit than with a modern scarf? The orange and red colour blocks accent all of the above mentioned items beautifully and don’t overpower the outfit.

I noticed the minimalistic amount of stripes and herringbone patterns, which takes this scarf from good to great. When you’re enjoying the crisp, autumn weather with a PSL or cider in hand, you’ll cozy and chic.
