Leave it to artists to be, well, artistic and creative. In Lakeview, off Hydro Road, is where you’ll find The Art Shelter - a 42-foot wide geodesic dome from Artic Acres. Specifically located at 887 Hydro Road, it’s surrounded by conservation lands, making it easily accessible.
Operated by Mississauga’s Frog In Hand, they say “the dome's limited footprint, flexibility and collaborative working model will provide accessible arts programming - including a series of professional artists in residence over 2024. This will be a place to commune with genius loci, the spirit of place. Once built, the Shelter will be artist-run and community-engaged, an intentional act of climate and arts leadership. In this public space - we hope to cultivate wellness, foster connection and render meaning - where the cross-pollination of artistic forms can occur, generating unconventional solutions for community participation.”

They go on to say “the Art Shelter is a venture in placemaking - the creation of this site is a direct response to the lack of accessible arts spaces in Mississauga and Toronto - as a small arts company, through self-determination, we are making space for others! This site will be responsive and adaptable to the community; strengthening connections between people and the arts - we hope to collectively and intentionally shape what the future of this incredible site can hold!”

Frog In Hand are posting progress updates that you can follow along with on their Facebook page.

It’s always good to see the arts scene in our community continue to thrive.
