ROB AGUIAR - Your voice is a powerhouse—bold, emotive, and unmistakably yours. Who were the vocalists or artists that inspired you to embrace that kind of strength and presence in your own sound?
CHRISTEE PALACE - I really appreciate you saying that! I grew up listening to classic rock which was introduced to me by my dad (who’s a musical genius), so I always looked for edgy, powerful rock vocals in artists I listened to. I also loved the catchy hooky nature of pop music, so naturally pop rock ended up being my favourite genre. My most favourite artists that have influenced everything are Hayley Williams of Paramore, Avril Lavigne, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, Heart, Pink, and so many others. My dad also encouraged me to sing songs by the greatest singers of all time (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey..), even if not in my genre, to gain more vocal depth and dexterity.
RA - From ,”Love Me Better” to “Face Myself”, your lyrics have become increasingly introspective. Has embracing vulnerability in your writing helped you feel more empowered as an artist—or even as a person?
CP - I think being vulnerable is just necessary to creating art that is meaningful for you. When you’re able to be vulnerable and honest, naturally you feel empowered by embracing who you are and how you see the world. It feels good to know that sometimes you even help to inspire others through your stories. It’s just a great feeling.
RA - In your newest release “Face Myself”, you sing, “I’ll punch me in my face, and knock the wind out of me.” That’s such a visceral metaphor for self-confrontation. Can you walk us through the emotional landscape behind that lyric—and what it means to truly ‘face yourself’?
CP - I knew when I was writing the songs for this project that I needed one song that really encapsulated confronting yourself, and how I could imagine doing that. As soon as I wrote “Face Myself”, I knew that was the title track of the EP, and that the concept of facing yourself would be the entire point. I thought of so many moments where I was so incredibly frustrated with myself for getting in my own way, that I’d imagine literally knocking myself out to knock some sense into me. I loved the playful nature of that line, because it’s so catchy and almost brings a lighthearted energy to it… all the while, very seriously telling myself “knock it off, and take a look at yourself”. The entire song is about taking accountability, and taking active steps to be better.
RA - If you could collaborate with any artist—living or legendary—who would it be, and what kind of song would you want to create together?
CP - Avril Lavigne. She is the reason I really started songwriting in the first place. I was so inspired as a young girl when I heard her album “Let Go” that I used to write my own lyrics to the melodies and keys of her own songs, but that reflected things I was going through at the time. She provided such an incredible outlet for me to really discover how much music and writing what I was feeling was going to help me. I don’t even care what we’d write… it would just be so incredible to sit in a room with her and talk about things that bother us and come up with an edgy yet catchy way of expressing it.
RA - With “Face Myself” making waves and your sound evolving in bold new directions, what’s next for you creatively? Are there themes, styles, or projects you’re excited to explore in this next chapter?
CP - I am always going to write and release music. It’s just a part of who I am at this point and I truly feel lost without it. I already have new tracks on the go and am focusing a lot on highlighting parts of me that feel even more vulnerable, and writing about them. I’m also collaborating a lot with other artists and producers which has been so incredible.. I’m really growing as a songwriter and pushing myself into experimenting with different genres like EDM and mainstream pop for TV and film. It’s been so much fun.
Christee Palace continues to grow as an artist who leads with honesty and heart. Her latest work shows a deeper sense of self and a clear connection to the emotions that drive her music. Whether she’s writing about heartbreak or healing, there’s always something real behind the melody—and we’ll definitely be listening as her next chapter unfolds.
