Mississauga Freedom Pass offers free transit and more all summer long

(City of Mississauga)

I remember being 14 years old, just starting high school, and getting into extracurricular activities for the first time. That meant staying late after school, coming in early, and meeting with groups all over the city. That also meant taking public transit in the days before smartphones and GPS, and it took me a while to get comfortable with the (occasionally confusing) bus routes. I would have felt a lot more at ease if we had a program like the Freedom Pass, which lets Mississauga residents between the ages of 12 and 14 ride the bus for free all summer so they can get comfortable with public transit during those crucial middle school/early high school years.

What is the Mississauga Freedom Pass?

It’s a free pass that allows for two things:

  • Free, unlimited bus rides throughout Mississauga!
  • Free public swim at all City of Mississauga operated indoor and outdoor pools!

Who can get a Freedom Pass?

Mississauga residents between the ages of 12 and 14 – specifically, with a date of birth between July 2, 2001 and December 31, 2004 – are eligible for a Freedom Pass. There are only 10,000 passes available, so the sooner you get your application in, the better your chance of getting one!

When can the Freedom Pass be used?

The Mississauga Freedom Pass is valid for unlimited use between July 1, 2016 and August 31, 2016.

How and where do I get a Freedom Pass?

  1. Visit one of the city’s community centres on or after Sunday, May 1st, 2016, with a valid piece of photo ID displaying proof of age (e.g. health card or passport)
  2. Complete a Freedom Pass application form –  parental/guardian approval is needed
