2026 Mississauga Election Candidate Profile: Ward 2 - Leeann Cole

With the upcoming 2026 Municipal elections happening on Monday, October 26th, Modern Mississauga Media has reached out to all candidates inviting them to answer the same questions so voters can familiarize themselves with them.

With the 2022 Mississauga election having a paltry 21.84% voter turnout, this series is to educate the community and hopefully increase voter turnout for 2026.
Low voter turnout means that the voices of a few make decisions for all.

1. Why are you running for Ward 2 councillor?
I'm a lifelong resident of Mississauga—born and raised here over the past 51 years—and a proud parent of three children with deep roots in this community and a real personal stake in its future. My career as a registered nurse and my service as an elected school trustee taught me how to manage budgets, respond in a crisis, and put people first. I'm running because I want to bring that same experience, leadership, and community-first approach to City Council and be an accessible, hardworking voice for the families and neighbourhoods of Ward 2.

2. What makes you stand out over other candidates?
I bring a rare combination of frontline and governance experience. As a registered nurse in child, adolescent, and adult mental health and general medicine at Trillium and Credit Valley Hospitals, I learned compassion, crisis management, and how to care for people when it matters most. As an elected Peel District School Board trustee, I was chosen by my peers to serve as Vice-Chair of the Board in my very first year, and as Vice-Chair of the Discipline Committee. My focus there was budget oversight, fiscal responsibility, special education, and supporting families—and I successfully brought forward a motion to reinstate the school resource officer program to keep our kids safe. I know how to read a budget and how to get results.

3. What are your key campaign priorities?
Community safety, responsible spending, and keeping Ward 2 a great place to raise a family. My record is built on fiscal responsibility and budget oversight, on protecting the health and safety of our children, and on supporting families—and those are the values I'll carry to Council. I'll be an accessible councillor who listens first and advocates hard for our neighbourhoods.

4. What budget item is the most important for Mississauga?
Spending taxpayer dollars responsibly across the board. My trustee record was rooted in budget oversight and fiscal responsibility, and I'll bring that same discipline to the City—making sure core services residents rely on, like safe streets, infrastructure, and community safety, are funded properly without unnecessary tax increases on families.

5. What are your three favourite aspects of Mississauga?
The people and the strong sense of community; our green space and waterfront, especially the parks and trails that make the Clarkson and Lorne Park area such a wonderful place to live; and the fact that it's home—the city where I was born, raised my children, and built my career.

6. How will you be actively supporting our locally owned businesses if elected?
By being a partner to them, not an obstacle. That means listening directly to local business owners about the challenges they face, cutting unnecessary red tape at City Hall, and helping promote and support the small businesses and village-style commercial areas that give our ward its character.

7. What does Mississauga currently excel at?
Mississauga is a safe, welcoming, and remarkably diverse city with strong neighbourhoods, excellent parks and recreation, and a real sense of community pride. It's a city that people are proud to call home—and that foundation is something worth protecting and building on.

8. How would you communicate with residents and what communication standards will you be setting and following?
Being accessible is a core commitment of mine. I'll make myself available to residents and respond to their concerns in a timely way, whether by phone, email, in person, or at community events. Residents deserve a councillor who is easy to reach, who follows up, and who keeps them informed on the decisions that affect their streets and families.

9. How do you plan to actively involve and include residents in decisions?
I believe in a community-first approach, which means bringing residents into the conversation before decisions are made—not after. I'll host opportunities for residents to share their views, seek out input from the people directly affected by a decision, and make sure Ward 2 families have a genuine voice at the Council table.
