SAWITRI Theatre Group is delighted to present the Canadian premier of Hindi Shorts 2019 - Nine short plays written by Tanuj Khosla in Hindi at Sampradaya Theatre, Mississauga from Thursday 14th March to Saturday 16th March 2019. Hindi Shorts 2019 is a collection of 9 different plays that unleash a plethora of human emotions ranging from light-hearted comedy to dark vengeance - “Aulaad” (Children), “Coolie” (Porter), “Home Delivery”, “Humaare Beech” (Amongst Us), “Mili”, “Project Admission”, “The Sacrifice”, The Date” and “Third Wheel”. “Tanuj’s stories are rooted in basic human emotions raw and passionate - love, loathing, envy, anger, and all come with a surprise ending.” – Shruti Shah.
The Creative Team of Hindi Shorts 2019 consists of Shruti Shah, the lead Director along with Nitin Sawant. Raina Desai and Gunja Chakraborty are emerging directors, each directing two plays and assisting with the rest. Lighting Design by Sid Sawant. Set Design by Raina Desai and Shruti Shah; Sound by Keyoor Shah and Costume Design by Shruti Shah and Raina Desai. The production consists of 14 actors; some of whom take on multiple roles. Many of these talented emerging actors are new generation and newcomers to Canada.
SAWITRI Theatre Group – Founded in January 2003, SAWITRI Theatre Group is an award-winning, incorporated not-for-profit organization under the artistic leadership of Jasmine Sawant and Shruti Shah, presenting original, challenging and exciting works featuring established professionals as well as emerging artists. It strives to educate, entertain and heal through theatre arts that are South Asian in character, origin or topic and foreground women as well as issues of social or political importance. A preeminent producer and presenter of South Asian Theatre Arts in Mississauga, SAWITRI Theatre Group is known to take risks, bringing unique theatre experiences to its audiences, producing plays in some of India’s many languages, including English. Operationally, SAWITRI Theatre Group is supported by The Open Space, Nitin Sawant, and the unstinting support of family, friends and volunteers and is partly supported by the City of Mississauga through an annual operating grant.
